Community Language Classes

Register Now for Fall 2021 Language Classes!

We are planning for fall 2021 evening classes to take place in-person. Smaller groups will meet in the Confucius Institute classroom (113 UB Commons). Larger groups may meet in classrooms in nearby campus buildings for lower density. 

***The Confucius Institute will comply with University at Buffalo and SUNY policies that all students must be vaccinated.***

***At the current time, masks are required for everyone on UB campuses.***

Tuition: $300 for 15 weeks, includes some course materials.
(Some students may wish to purchase other accompanying textbooks.)

Fall 2021 courses
Note that the nights for each course have changed to accommodate more returning students.

Beginning Chinese 
Thursdays, beginning September 2
6:00-8:00 pm
Builds basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for work, travel or educational enrichment.

Second-year Chinese 
Mondays, beginning August 30
6:00-8:00 pm
A listening, speaking, reading, and writing course for students with advanced beginner to low intermediate knowledge of Chinese.

Third-year Chinese 
Tuesdays, beginning August 31
6:00-8:00 pm
A listening, speaking, reading, and writing course for students with intermediate knowledge of Chinese.

Advanced Chinese class has been cancelled for fall 2021
A listening, speaking, reading, and writing course for students with high intermediate to advanced knowledge of Chinese.

Curriculum

  • Adapted from the curriculum of the UB Chinese Language Program and uniquely designed for our weekly evening classes.

Our teachers can evaluate your language ability to determine appropriate placement.

  • All courses are taught by experienced native speakers.
  • Classes are designed for adult learners. High school students are welcome.
  • Instruction emphasizes communication and develops the four fundamental skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Courses meet 6:00-8:00pm, normally in the Confucius Institute classroom, 113 UB Commons.
  • Convenient parking is available in the UB Furnas Lot.
