Mountains May Depart film screening

September 23, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The UB Confucius Institute invites you to see the film Mountains May Depart (山河故人) by director Jia Zhangke (贾樟柯), this Friday at 5:00 in Knox 14, UB North Campus. UBCI Associate Director Maggie Lu will introduce the film and lead a discussion following the screening.

The story tracks Tao and her relations with Liangzi, who works at a coal mine, and Jinsheng, a budding entrepreneur.  Tao’s life, and that of those close to her, is explored in three different time periods: 1999, 2014, and 2025.  She eventually chooses one man over the other.  By the end, she is living in a new world even if her soul remains in the old.

Free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary.

This film is part of the Global CINEMAspectives film series, organized by the UB Office of International Student and Scholar Services. It is being shown in conjunction with the Confucius Institute’s Confucius Day/Moon Festival celebrations.
