Looking Back: Chinese Music in the Eyes of a Chinese Musician

Yueqin ‘Eugenie’ Chen, who studied traditional Chinese music at a modern conservatory in China, reflects on her experience as a learner, an observer, and an ambassador of Chinese music from childhood to the present day in an interview with composer Weijun Chen.

Yueqin Chen is a classically trained Ruan and Liuqin artist based in New York City. Before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree, she spent six years at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music studying Ruan and Liuqin performance with Professor Wu Qiang. In 2007, she won first place in the National Classical Chinese Music Competition with her music group Jin Qi. Since moving to New York, she has performed at various concerts and events, including at Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
