Dr. Tan Ye is professor of Comparative Theater, director of the Confucius Institute, and director of the Chinese program at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Ye will discuss the distinguished career of Wu Tianming, a “fourth-generation” filmmaker in China who was renowned not only for his own highly-acclaimed films, but also as head of the Xian Film Studio and mentor to Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, and other “fifth-generation” filmmakers. Dr. Ye’s publications include Common Dramatic Codes in Yuan and Elizabethan Theaters, Chinese Theater A-Z, Historical Dictionary of Chinese Cinema, and more than 100 essays, book chapters, and articles in the U.S., Canada, China and Taiwan.
