(Note: The Western Michigan Confucius Institute is a partner with UBCI in the Great Lakes Chinese Consortium.)

To bring together academicians, artists, scholars and international education professionals from Asia and the West to dialogue and explore various aspects and issues related to Asia and the global community through a multidisciplinary and multi-faceted conference. We are inviting paper and panel proposals encompassing all aspects on Asia’s past, present and future, including: arts, literature, history, culture, humanities, business, economics, politics, educational exchange and cooperation and language pedagogy. We specially encourage research and observations related to COVID-19. WMU faculty, administrators and graduate students, as well as their international partners and research associates are encouraged to participate. We also welcome our colleagues from colleges and universities in Michigan and the mid-west area.

Conference Format:
It will be a virtual conference mainly through the platform of WebEx. The conference will feature paper presentations, panel discussions, artistic and creative exhibitions, performances, readings, posters and workshops. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Timothy Light Center for Chinese Studies, a virtual poster exhibition will be held for faculty and students (including undergraduate students) to present their research in Chinese Studies and topics related to China. For conference participants from abroad, we will arrange the presentation with consideration of time difference.

Submission for Presentation:
Please submit a one-page abstract describing the proposed presentation, and a brief biography of the presenter(s). Submission of proposals for full panels, roundtable discussion, or workshops with a specific theme and list of presenters are also encouraged. Please submit the materials to Dr. Ying Zeng at by September 30, 2020. Submissions will be reviewed and invitation letters sent (if proposal accepted) within 15 days following receipt of submission.
